Weer Rajendra Rishi was an Indian linguist known for his contributions in the field of linguistics. He was a recipient the Padma Shri award from the President of India in 1970.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Padma Shri Awardees )〕〔(Indian Institute of Romani Studies )〕 He worked in the Indian Embassy at Moscow (1950–52) and the Indian High Commissions at Singapore (1962–65) and London (1969–71).He worked as interpreter to various Soviet dignitaries including Khrushchev, Marshal Bulganin, Marshal Voroshilov and Marshal Zakharov and Prime Minister Alexei Kosygin. He accompanied the ex-President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad as his interpreter during his official visit to the Soviet Union in 1960. He has travelled widely in Europe, the USSR etc. and lived amongst Roma. Mr. Rishi took voluntary retirement from the Indian Foreign Service in 1973. Mr. Rishi was the Director of the Indian Institute of Romani Studies at Chandigarh and the editor of Roma - Half-Yearly Journal on the Life, Language and Culture of Roma (the Gypsies of Europe, the Americas, Russia, etc.). He was the Honorary President, International Romani Union. of Roma, January–July 1996, #s 44-45. Works published by Dr. Rishi: 1.
